Sussex Life: Gateway to Better Health - February edition - Christina quoted

January 2009

Christina Chatfield was quoted promoting the importance of personal oral hygiene in Sussex Life, February 2009.

"Hygienist Christina Chatfield from Brighton's Dental Health Spa says the most important thing for us all to do all we can to do all we can to keep our mouths healthy with regular brushing, flossing and, of course, visits to the hygienist.

"Anything people can do to break up the bacteria will help keep their mouths in good health. The challenge is motivating people to do so. When people visit their hygienist the chances are they haven't been flossing regularly and they're probably feeling anxious about it - the last thing they want is a lecture. I hope that the more we can explain the risks to general health  then the more people will do for themselves and be encouraged to visit a hygienist."

Christina is also certain that there needs to be more hygienists.

"The government would argue that there are more dentists now than ever but we still have  a problem. There has to be more access to good hygienists and i really think this is where the emphasis will be in the next few years.""
