"With its unique approach to preventative dental care, Dental Health Spa is a breath of fresh air.If you are one of the many people who can't find an NHS dentist to take a look at their teeth - or if you are one of the lucky few who can, but feel short-changed by the basic level you get - the opening of Dental Health Spa on Queen's Road should be music to your ears.
Brighton's first independent hygiene centre, Dental Health Spa has been opened by a team of hygienists to plug what they see as a gaping hole in the market. By offering affordable and accessible dental hygiene in a a contemporary, comfortable and welcoming practice in a High Street location, the centre is aiming to provide preventative care above and beyond the basic service provided by NHS practices. A key driver is referrals from local dentists but because of its location walk-in trade constitutes a large part of their business - which is just the way they want it.
The centre itself feels like a health spa - the clue is in the name and it's the effect one can assume they were hoping for - with a muted blue and grey colour scheme and miles of sandblasted glass. It's equipped with the very latest tools and technology - I was treated to a state-of-the-art 'air polish' which was a quick and comfortable way to leave your teeth spotlessly clean and stain-free - and equipped with its own infection control room. You're not going to catch anything nasty here.
But beyond the centre itself, what marks the spa out as really innovative is its customer-focused approach. The centre operates opening times designed around busy lifestyles - it's open Saturdays and from eight 'til eight during the week - and it's location on Queens Road makes it easy to access for commuters, visitors and residents alike.
The emphasis is very much on preventative care too, rather than fixing conditions once they've become a problem, which is the modus operandi of much of the dentistry profession. There is a dentist at the practice who patients can choose to see if they wish, but the key driver is hygiene: customers are encouraged to have regular hygiene maintenance sessions and to make oral health part of their daily health and beauty routine.
With both botox and chiropody to be added to the list of treatments later this year, Dental Health Centre is set to be the place for top-to-toe treatments..."
